Design Document 2

The role of the mentor is to be a professional role model providing guidance for the people to achieve their academic and personal goals.

The role of the facilitator is to help to manage the process of information exchange (mentoring sessions), in order to apply the correct procedures.

List of responsibilities:
  • Share and believe in the goals and objectives of the Studio Program. (really important)
  • Manage time properly.
  • Be a proactive listener.
  • Provide the correct direction to the student.
  • Maintain an open communication with others.
  • Provide honest feedback.
  • Behave as a role model.
  • Share professional and academic experiences, successes or failures, if appropriate.
  • Keep commitments.
  • Establish excellent networks to support and benefit the student.
  • Provide the student with the information about University policies.






Planning Document 1

Type of resources and activities that we need to plan a Studio Program:

  • Follow the parameters of Kean Mission's Statement.
  • Database for student's contact information.
  • Information about what classes students are taking.
  • Texts' titles in order to use books as references for mentoring sessions.
  • Student's background information.
  • Student's academic performance (reports from faculty).
  • Attendance sheets.
  • Convenience locations for students and mentors.
  • Qualified mentors.
  • Clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and expectations for students and mentors.

Design Document 1

The Studio program at Kean University could be designed with the following goals in mind:
  • Provide students the opportunity to develop a mentoring relationship that will further inspire personal and professional success.
  • Provide students the opportunity to gain perspectives about college life.
  • Provide students a different learning experience through a variety of teaching styles.
  • Develop listening, note-taking and test-taking skills.
  • Prepare students to take advantage of additional materials and technology (ex. e-learning platforms).
  • Establish, adapt and apply new methods of learning.
  • Identify differences between important things and priorities.
  • Analyze new situations and provide possible solutions.
  • Give students the necessary tools and tips to manage their time properly.
